Christian Aid Week 2026: Seven Days to Make a Difference

Each May, churches across the UK come together for Christian Aid Week and this year we at Rustington Methodist Church are proud to be playing our part again.

Running from 10 to 16 May 2026, Christian Aid Week is seven days to make a difference. The gifts raised support Christian Aid and their local partners as they work with communities for long-term change, so families can grow food, build livelihoods and face the future with dignity.

This year’s focus for Christian Aid Week: Nairobi, Kenya

This year, the focus is on addressing severe urban poverty in Nairobi, Kenya, supporting families by providing tools, seeds and training to help them grow food in small spaces, strengthening both resilience and self-sufficiency. It is a practical, dignified response to poverty and one that creates lasting change rather than just short-term relief.

See it for yourself

Join us at our 10:45 am service on Sunday 10th May, where we will be sharing more about the work of Christian Aid and the difference your support can make. It is a wonderful opportunity to hear more before the week gets underway.

Your donation in action

It is easy to wonder whether a small donation can really make a difference. Here is what yours could mean for a family in Nairobi:

  • £5 could buy the seeds that kickstart a family’s nutritious vegetable garden
  • £10 could pay for a pair of chickens that produce fertiliser for an urban farmer
  • £15 could purchase the hand tools that mean an urban farmer can tend their crops
  • £30 could buy a trio of cone garden planters that host hundreds of plants in a tiny city space

Every pound given is a practical step towards a family’s independence and hope.

How we are getting involved

The promotional flyer announces a "Souper" Lunch event on Friday, May 15 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Rustington Methodist Church, supporting Christian Aid Week.

On Friday 15th May, we are hosting a ‘Souper’ Lunch here at the church from 12.00 pm. Come and enjoy a bowl of homemade soup and a roll, with donations going to Christian Aid. The soup is vegetarian, lactose free and gluten free, with gluten and lactose free rolls also available. Everyone is welcome!

There is something everyone can do

Whether you have an hour or just a few pounds to spare, there is a way for you to get involved this Christian Aid Week:

  • Red envelopes will be available from the church. Donate and return yours, using Gift Aid if you pay tax
  • Take an envelope for friends or family to donate
  • Help provide or make the soup for our Souper Lunch on 15th May
  • Join the street collection on Friday 15th May
  • Take a collection tin and collect for 30 or 60 minutes
  • Help count the money from the tins afterwards

Together, small acts add up to something significant. There truly is something everyone can do!
