About Rustington Methodist Church

At Rustington Methodist Church, we are called to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ by living out our faith in worship and mission. This commitment shapes everything we do, from our worship services to our community outreach programs.

We offer a variety of worship times and styles, welcoming those of all ages and backgrounds. We strive for excellence in our worship and aspire to be celebratory, sincere and relevant, engaging with the realities of life, and encouraging and enabling people to express and explore their relationship with God. We support and care for each other through pastoral care. Practising hospitality and generosity, through which we build relationships, and provide age appropriate opportunities to learn and grow as Christians including opportunities for families, children and young people to learn about Jesus together whilst having fun.

We actively offer charitable support and giving. Practise and promote the ethics of Fairtrade. Developing and living by the principles of being an Eco Church. We hold a Bronze ‘A Rocha Award’.

We use a variety of resources and activities to facilitate and take opportunities to be intentional to share and speak about Jesus.

Our Beliefs

As Methodists, we embrace the teachings summarised in the “Four Alls”:

  • All need to be saved – Recognising the shared human condition through the doctrine of original sin.
  • All can be saved – Believing in God’s universal offer of salvation.
  • All can know they are saved – Finding assurance in a personal relationship with Christ.
  • All can be saved completely – Striving for Christian perfection through the transforming power of God’s love.

Our Vision

We aim to respond to God’s calling by creating a community focused on worship, discipleship, and service. Our vision is to Know God’s love, Grow in God’s Love, Show God’s love to all. We are committed to:

  • Underpin everything we do with God-centred worship and prayer.
  • Grow as Christians through mutual support, care and teaching.
  • Provide a welcome, open and safe space for anyone and all to explore the Christian faith and what it means to follow Jesus.
  • Develop confidence in sharing our faith in ways that are relevant to all.
  • Care for God’s creation and to challenge injustice.
  • Live by the principles of the Methodist Way of Life.
  • Work with other Christian denominations in mission wherever possible.

Community and Inclusion

We warmly welcome everyone—whether you are firm in your Christian faith, exploring different beliefs, have no faith, or are still undecided. Our activities and groups are designed to foster community and provide support for all, embodying our mission to serve as a long-term presence of care and outreach in Rustington.

Join us as we worship together, grow in faith, and make a difference in the wider community. We are here for you—wherever you are on your journey.

Church History

Rustington Methodist Church has a history in the village which dates back to 1875. The current premises in Claigmar Road were built in 1952 with the hall added in 1977, and benefit from their proximity to the centre of the village, being situated just off The Street.

The rooms and prize-winning gardens are well used by the community: Littlehampton Fridge visit twice a week; Rascals Pre-School meet in the hall 4 days a week; and the hall and rooms are home to a wide variety of U3A, independent and church-run groups. These activities ensure that Rustington Methodist Church is busy, both in and around the building, on most days of the week.
