Services at Rustington Methodist Church
Sunday is the main, but not the only day when we gather for worship.
There is a service at 9.00 a.m every Sunday. This is the smaller of our two Sunday congregations. We sing some hymns, say prayers and read and think about one or more Bible readings and listen in the silence. There is a whisper of formality about the service which lasts about an hour. On the first and third Sundays, we share the communion meal of Bread and Wine – which we invite everyone to share – and on the third Sunday, there is always an opportunity to receive prayers for healing and wholeness.
The 10.45 a.m. service every Sunday, starts with an all-age period of worship before our children and young people go out to their own groups. As at the earlier service, we sing, say prayers, read and think about one or more Bible readings and listen in the silence. The service is a little more laid back than its' earlier sister and we sing a wider range of hymns and songs. On the fourth Sunday, we celebrate Communion – to which all are invited. The service generally lasts a little over the hour and somewhat longer on communion Sunday.
On the fourth Sunday of the month, we have an evening service at 6.30 p.m. This service is held in the Church lounge – entrance across the smaller of the two car parks. We refer to this service as a celebration service to help identify that the learning and singing of contemporary Christian songs is a central part.
Every Friday, at 10.45, we have a shopper’s service in the main church. This service is brief, lasting about 15 minutes. Towards the end of every half-term, the service is shared with the Church Pre-School for Preschool Praise. Occasionally we also celebrate Communion at the shopper’s service
